biosecurity

this is our 3rd consecutive year being cae, cl, & johnes free!

We are extremely passionate about our herd's health and the health of the herds around us.
We strongly recommend and encourage education, practice of testing, and learning the current health status of your animals.
Biosecurity and Testing is the most crucial part of goat husbandry and a solid foundation to build your herd.
Many of the diseases have no cure nor successful treatments and can be zoonotic (spread between human and animals).
Below we share important information of routine and practices we follow for our strict biosecurity measures.

Please do not use our test results as your own. Nothing is more accurate than proof from your own ownership.
See gallery of our screenshots of our results below. Full PDF files can be provided to buyers upon request.
If there are any questions or concerns feel free to message us.

How to test and what for?

Laboratory recommendations:

Precautions & Prevention

  • We clean water bowls and feeding troughs often.
  • We remove all manure and other organic materials to prevent disease/sickness in living quarters.
  • We do not allow people to enter our facilities.
(barn, pastures, pens, trailers, will be considered trespassing without permission.)
  • We only purchase from herds who have history of practicing correct and strict bio-security measures and can provide recent results.
  • We have asked farms to test prior to finalizing purchase of specific animals (at our expense).
  • If animals are taken off the farm for any reason, whether it be to a goat show or vet -- those animals are sprayed down full-body and hooves with a pet-safe and veterinarian-grade disinfectant. (Rescue™)
  • We do not offer buck/stud services to the general public.
  • We refuse to buy from farms that raise other breeds besides dairy.
  • We do not own or house barn cats.

How do we practice Biosecurity for new additions?

  • Any new additions are quarantined immediately.
  • We handle the new animals last with chores.
  • We wear different clothes and shoes in the quarantined animal's space.
  • We keep separate equipment for quarantined animals and our preexisting herd -- Always disinfecting after use.
  • Quarantined animals are tested within/at the end of 30days.
  • It is advised to quarantine for 30days, but we do practice quarantine for 60-90 days if at all possible.
  •  We have tested to recheck results and will test, if needed, other sources besides blood. Such as: culture testing for CL, Fecal PCR tests for Johnes if needed, necropsy, etc.
